What is a foster guardian?

Foster guardians are special people...compassionate souls who open their hearts and homes to cats and dogs in need, willing to provide love and care to animals on a temporary basis, sometimes just for a few days, sometimes a few months, depending on the needs of the animal. Foster homes truly are an extension of our shelter.

Because we are an "open door" public shelter, we rely on foster guardians to ensure every animal gets a successful start before getting adopted.

Some special areas where fosters are needed:

Bottle Feeding
Hospice Pets
Medical Recovery

Long term residents need fosters too! Help our long term dogs practice being in home, letting loose in the back yard and snuggling on the sofa.  If you are interested in becoming a Foster Ambassador, please contact us today.

If you're interested in helping an animal start off on the right foot by providing a foster home, please attend a foster orientation (see our calendar for details) or contact a member of our Placement Staff at or call the shelter at 760-416-5718.
